This will bring an additional fire house and personnel to the East side of town
and much needed upgrades to existing facilities and equipment.

HISTORY
The Belton Fire Department was organized in 1913. At the time of its organization, it consisted of all volunteer personnel. The first fire apparatus was a hand drawn chemical engine, which was purchased for approximately $300. The first Fire Chief was appointed in 1920. Chief H. K. Denkler was appointed as the first paid Fire Chief in 1971, and retired in 1998. Steven Holle has been Fire Chief since September 2000. The staff has grown from as few as four volunteers, to our current staffing of 26 uniformed personnel and one active volunteer. Our Command staff consists of personnel with more than 140 years of emergency services experience.
The Belton Fire Department staff is assigned to three shifts. The crews work 24 hour period beginning at 8:00 AM and ends at 8:00 AM the following day. the shift rotates with 24 on, 24 off, until crew has worked three "tours", then the personnel receive four days off. The 24 hour shift arrangement allows for maximum staffing, and is utilized by most fire departments.
Each shift is supervised by an Assistant Chief, who oversees all shift activities, and determines performance goals. The Assistant Chief is assigned a Shift Captain, who directly supervises personnel, and assists them in the completion of their assigned duties. In addition to general shift duties, such as vehicle/equipment checks, each shift is required to perform duties related to other Department functions. These include pre-fire planning, inventory control, documentation, vehicle/equipment maintenance, special tasks such as pump testing, building and grounds maintenance, fire hose and hydrant testing. In addition to the duties above, personnel must conduct training, perform public education and community services activities, and be ready at any time to respond to requests for fire or ambulance service.
