HISTORY

This museum is located in Belton's original city hall building which was restored during the middle seventies when many residents donated their time, talents and money to save the building from destruction.  The museum opened in the renovated building on June 14, 1981.

Originally it served as a city auditorium and a place to play basketball.  At one time it was a movie house, served as the first home for the internationally known Grace Company, Manufacturer of children's clothing.  It was a library, housed city hall offices, the police department and fire department headquarters.

In addition to the museum, the Chamber of Commerce and Belton Economic Development offices are housed in this building, as well as quarterly BCPI meetings.

Our beloved building will turn 100 years old in 2006.
